Burglary, vehicle theft and other charges, Bungalow: A 20-year-old Townsville woman was arrested and charged yesterday following a number of incidents allegedly occurring in Bungalow.
It will be alleged that the woman gained entry to an Edgar Street residence early on Tuesday morning and stole a set of car keys, before exiting the dwelling and using the keys to steal the resident’s utility.
It will be further alleged that the woman then drove the stolen vehicle to a unit complex in Kidston Street where she attempted to reverse the vehicle into the driveway. The vehicle collided with a side fence before crashing into a post at the end of the driveway, causing a rear tyre to deflate.
She then drove out of the property before colliding with a gutter, causing a second tyre to deflate. She then reversed the vehicle at speed and collided with the front gate and fence of another nearby unit complex, causing significant property and vehicle damage.
The woman then allegedly the vehicle before leaving the area on foot. Witnesses contacted police and assisted the police crew to subsequently locate her near the intersection of Kidston and Hartley Streets where she was taken into custody. The woman refused to undergo a roadside breath test when required at the scene, as well as a secondary test at the police station.
She was charged with one count each of burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, unlicensed driving and contravening a requirement, as well as two counts of failing to provide specimen of breath for analysis.
The woman is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court this morning.
