Property and traffic charges, Mossman: Detectives from Mossman CIB charged a 30-year-old Edmonton man yesterday afternoon following investigations into a string of offences allegedly committed in the Mossman, Cairns and Edmonton areas between April 18 and 20.

Officers located the man at a Cooya Beach residence shortly before midday where he was taken into custody.  He was charged with a total of eight offences including three counts of driving a motor vehicle whilst disqualified from holding a licence, two counts of failing to stop a motor vehicle and one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, burglary and entering premises with intent.

The man is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court this morning.

Drug and assault charges, Edmonton: A 27-year-old Edmonton man was charged last night after being located and apprehended by a Dog Squad team in a cane field near the Bruce Highway at Edmonton.

The man had been intercepted by first response officers and arrested in relation to an outstanding custody warrant shortly after 8.30pm. He then allegedly struck the arresting officer and broke free before fleeing on foot into the fields.

Police Dog Xander and his handler attended the scene and tracked the man over a distance of approximately one kilometre through creeks and cane fields before he was apprehended and taken into custody.

He was charged with two counts of obstructing police and one count each of assaulting police and possession of a dangerous drug. He was also dealt with on an outstanding custody warrant and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court this morning.

Property charges, Manunda: Two Manoora boys aged 14 and 15 were charged yesterday following investigations into a series of property offences allegedly committed at Manunda.

The pair were charged with a total of five offences including entering premises and stealing, entering premises with intent and wilful damage. They will be dealt with under the provisions of The Youth Justice Act 1992.

The charges relate to the alleged forced entry and theft of property from a butchery, a recreation centre and a motor vehicle on April 15.
